SOME IDEAS from the SCHOOLS CURRICULUM FOR THOSE STORYTELLERS WHO ARE
FACILITATING WORKSHOPS AND TELLING STORIES IN SCHOOLS


The current school curriculum has several areas with objectives relating to language that are of possible interest to those tellers who have received requests to facilitate a workshop on storytelling. This information may help you to formulate your own objectives for the workshops.
There are, of course, different learning outcomes for the different levels. In this article I will focus on Levels One and Eight.

  • Identify language features in a range of texts
  • Describe, analyze and evaluate their appropriateness in terms of meaning, purpose and audience.

LEVEL ONE
  • Identify, clarify, and question meanings in spoken text. Drawing on personal background, knowledge and experience.
LEVEL EIGHT
  • Discuss interpret and evaluate spoken texts in terms of their structure, and their social cultural, political and historical contexts
